List Building and Traffic

This hub is about list building and traffic. We have as our mentor Alex Jeffreys, and we are learning how to build our business. There are five hundred of us, and about 150 of those are actively building businesses.

We have had a competition to see who could get the most traffic to our blogs, and we had to write about how we were personally getting traffic. This meant everyone has great informative blogs now that people are going to want to come and visit.

I thought I would make a hub about what we are learning and how we are getting along.

Top Tips for Beginner Marketers!

Internet Marketing is a very simple idea. We show people how marvellous our product is, how it can save them time, money and solve their problems. We tempt them and tease them, we use all our special copywriting skills and psychological tactics in order to get people to buy.

We maybe spend a great deal of time learning copywriting skills, or paying a great deal of money for a professional copywriter. We take steps to get into and then out of technical hell, learning how to put up a professional-looking site. (Or fork out again, for someone else to do it for us.) We study SEO (Search Engine Optimization) black hat tactics, white hat tactics, metatags, H1 and H2 headings, we end up with a beautiful, perfect optimized site. We sit back and wait for the stream of visitors to come charging to our site in their droves.

And time goes by....and we realise that what we need is customers. Not just visitors to come and admire it, proper buying customers, willing to part with their hard earned cash.

But hang on, what if they come, they maybe even buy, and then they disappear forever. No! We don't want that. It's five times more difficult to get customers than to keep them. We need to keep the customer, befriend the customer, build a relationship with the customer.

How are we going to do that? How can we keep a list, keep emailing? We know the list will grow, what if we go on holiday? What if our computer dies? How can we keep a list of everyone? How do we go about listbuilding? Fortunately there is an answer to that - www.aweber.com. We can set up an aweber account and they hold the names of all the people who buy from us. But what about all the people who come and go without buying? We want to build a relationship with them too, because they may become customers over time. We need to them to trust us to provide top quality information products. That's when listbuilding can become profitable!

What we can do is offer something free. Something valuable - everyone loves good value. And we can ask for their name and email address in return. Then we can really start our listbuilding.

We need to get the word out there then, about our product, about our free product, so that people can come and buy, or come and get a valuable product in return for their name. We need to build our list. Lots of marketers say "The money is in the list". Actually, "The money is in the relationship with the list." (Michael Cheney).

That works because when people do trust you then you can sell to your list. They know you recommend good products, that you send them free items that you find, that they can rely on you for good information.

Internet marketing is a simple process, but not necessarily an easy one. We need every part of our system right before we can start making money online.
